This number is said to be about 3,900. This information was given by news agency AFP based on a report published on Tuesday local time.
Soon after the terrorist attack, a fund was set up to help victims in the United States. Later in 2011, another fund was opened.
From there, those who have developed physical complications due to the 9/11 attacks are also being assisted.
So far, more than 67,000 applications have been received for assistance in the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF).
According to VCF data, out of 67,000 applications, about 3,900 applications have come from family members of those who died after the 9/11 attacks.
The families claimed that they died of various physical complications caused by that day's terrorist attack.
In this connection, top VCF official Rupa Bhattacharya said that it appears that the number of deaths due to various illnesses related to the attack is higher than those who died in the 9/11 terror attack.
Over the years, 50 percent of those who have appealed to the VCF for help are reported to be cancer patients. VCF says more than 40,000 people have been given financial assistance of more than USD 8.95 billion so far.
On September 11, 2001, militants linked to the militant group al-Qaeda hijacked a few aircraft and carried out suicide attacks at three locations in the United States.
Two aircraft hit the World Trade Center or Twin Towers in New York. The third aircraft attacked the Pentagon. And the fourth aircraft attacked in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the horrific attacks.
