Empress® has come up with her debut EP titled "We own this crown." The new EP contains 6 tracks (including one remix) and is a great combination of lullabies to your ears. This new electronic-pop EP is colorful and creative, although it lacks a heavier innovative approach.
She has worked closely with music heavyweights Chris Athens and Grammy-nominated producer Bart Schudel to produce this EP. The first track titled the same as the Ep title, "We own this crown", is a beautiful track to start an EP with.
As the artist describes:
The second track 'Lovely I Am' is about her difficult career as a professional ballerina. The track is written beautifully throughout. The track 'All In My Head' is about how much she missed her husband when she was living in NYC performing on Broadway and her husband was stuck working in California for weeks at a time. ‘SnowGlobe’ helped her realize that true happiness only comes from within. ‘Vixen’ is about an empowered woman who remains beautiful and attractive throughout the many stages of womanhood. ‘Parking Lot Full Of Stars’ is about being isolated during the pandemic and how we were all stuck at home, together - apart. Finally the title of the EP, We Own This Crown is a reminder to us all that we are the rulers over our own lives.”
The EP sounds energetic and colorful with some beautiful tracks in it, but overall it seems and sounds a bit pre-mature. Although some of her approaches were creative to some extent, it wasn't fully original in any way, which is completely fine, standing at this era of music where authenticity and uniqueness are at a stake?
Other than the first track, the whole EP feels like it is somewhat sluggish, and there is not enough melodic and lyrical flamboyance in it. The lyrics were a bit shady and ambitious. But her messages weren't ambiguous. It's a decent Ep to start with, but you wouldn't probably want to put in your top favorite albums of the week list.
